The first ‘Gatsby’ Bar, which you can see here, was purchased within 3 days of being placed in our bay at The Malt House, Tewkesbury. But within that time, someone else also fell in love with it and when they found it had sold, they got in touch with us and we got to work sourcing another suitable unit for them!
Once we’d procured the right base cabinet, it underwent the same extensive strip down & repair. The customer loved the first Gatsby so much that they wanted almost exactly the same finish, with Athenian Black Annie Sloan paint and both clear & black wax to seal the paintwork and ensure long term protection. We managed to source slightly different antique brass handles which complimented the Art Deco paper beautfully, and ensured that it was a unique piece of furniture inspired by the first Gatsby, rather than copying it.
As before, the big feature of this piece when it’s opened up is the Art Deco paper lining. We carefully applied this to the inside of the lid, all around the central section and extensively on all three drawers. The addition of a mirror to the back of the centre section both reflects the paper and showcases the bottles placed inside.
Whilst the smaller central drawer is perfect for storing glass tumbers & wine glasses, we modified the two tall drawers to create extra storage for bottles of all sizes. Ingenious use of the original structure & fittings ensures the runners all function perfectly even when the piece is full of your favourite tipples.
The finishing touches are gold gilt detailing throughout and the etched glass design on the main door.
Dimensions of this piece were: 91cm high (with lid fully open 136 cm), 91cm wide and 48cm deep. If you’d like something similar yourself, please drop us a message.
The customer was absolutely delighted and it was a pleasure to hand deliver as a surprise for their grandmother!
