Dating from the 1860s, this very large solid pine chest of drawers is in beautiful original condition, now distressed by over 150 years of use. The history of this piece is visible in the various layers of wax & varnish which have created an atmospheric patina through the marks of a life well lived.
A remarkable feature of these drawers is the linework border design in red & black with corner motifs to the top, which really elevates this piece from other similar items and makes it a very rare find.
Original panelled back with six drawers in a 2 over 3 configuration – all with ceramic bun handles and in excellent working order.
The drawer fronts have dovetail joints to the sides and all the drawers have their original centre supports and quadrant edges to the bases, and all are immaculately clean inside.
All five drawers are nicely aligned to the carcass and all have stops in place to keep them centred. Although there are no longer keys, all the drawers have the original brass lock fittings in place.
A fabulous piece ready to start the next stage of its long life!
Dimensions are 106cm wide, 100cm high, 54cm deep.
