Not every piece of furniture we restore needs painting! This 1910 antique folding drinks trolley was looking a little bit tired and unloved when we found it, and we decided that the best plan was a sensitive restoration.
We stripped it down, carefully labelling all the pieces – you’d be surprised how many bits of brasswork go into this little trolley! Then, the wood was thoroughly cleaned, delicately sanded to remove the last of the old varnish and then some fresh wood oil was allowed to soak in before being buffed to a rich shine.
The brass was all very discoloured and we decided to keep some of that aged patina, rather than making it all look too new. With the depth of colour of the walnut elements, the antique brass looks beautiful.
This is a very practical serving trolley that has the added feature of a mechanism that allows it to be folded in half for easy storage. The rich walnut shelves have a gallery edge and stand on four chamfered legs, terminating in the original slim wheels.
